Friends of Chappie is always working to protect and improve the Chappie-Shasta OHV Area. Here are our current and upcoming projects focused on trail maintenance, fire recovery, and safe recreation.
Status: Ongoing
Description: Friends of Chappie is working to restore native vegetation across the Chappie-Shasta OHV Area by planting and caring for native trees in areas impacted by wildfire and erosion. Volunteers help plant saplings and return throughout the seasons to water and monitor their growth, supporting long-term recovery and habitat restoration.

Status: In Progress
Description:
We're reinforcing switchbacks and installing new drainage structures to reduce erosion damage during wet seasons. This section was heavily affected by runoff after winter storms.

Status: Cleanup Phase
Description:
We're clearing downed trees and storm debris from burn areas to make the trails safe and passable again. This also reduces fire hazard for the 2025 season.
Needs: Chainsaw-certified volunteers, brush hauling

Description:
We’re collaborating with BLM to install new trailhead signs, safety notices, and directional markers across the southern section of the OHV area. Designs approved, installation to begin in August.
